My Profession and Why I Chose It

I am an obstetrician/gynecologist, which means that I take care of women and women's problems in every phase of her life, from puberty through childbearing years and into menopause. I chose this field, because I love working with women and their specific problems. An OB/GYN gets a special look into the most life-changing events for women, everything from having a new baby to possibly needing a hysterectomy and so many others. I feel privileged that I can help my patients through these critical times in their lives.

My Credentials

Medical school Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA
Internship University Hospital, Albuquerque, NM
Residency University Hospital, Albuquerque, NM
Board certification Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology

My Practice Philosophy

My practice philosophy is to work with each individual patient to find a solution together for her specific problem. This involves teamwork, communication and care that is based on evidence. I may not be able to fix everything, but I will do my best to listen and work with you.

My Tenure with TPMG

I started out my career in private practice, but quickly realized that much of my time was spent in the business aspect of medicine rather than focusing on the medical care of patients. This also took too much time away from my family life. I have now been a part of Kaiser Permanente since 1999 and love how I can spend most of my time directly in patient care, practicing medicine in the way that I want. I am also able to spend more quality time with my family, making me a more balanced, happier person and better physician.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

Other things that I love about being a part of KP are the evidence-based and team approach to medicine, the close cooperation of all the physicians, our leadership by physicians instead of businessmen, and the attention to quality and prevention.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

  • Northern California Obstetrical & Gynecological Society
  • California Medical Association and American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology

During my time with Kaiser, I have been involved in the Perinatal Patient Safety Project, the administration of the Women's Health Department, and most recently in our Quality Assurance committees. I also have special interests in cervical cancer screening and contraceptive care to insure that every pregnancy is a planned pregnancy.

On a Personal Note…

I grew up in Monterey and was so happy to return to California after being away for the 4 years of medical school in Philadelphia and 4 years of residency in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Now, I have finally adjusted to the Sacramento summers and "freeze" whenever I go home to visit my parents in the fog! I try to spend as much time as I can with my husband and two sons, so feel very lucky that I can work part time and balance a rewarding career and fulfilling home life.
