My Healthcare Practice

Twenty-two years ago, I chose Ob/Gyn as a specialty because of the diversity and complexity that women’s healthcare presents. One can help women deliver their babies one day and the very next day assist an eighty year old woman with her special age related problems.

My practice philosophy is to encourage preventative health by offering options for healthy lifestyles. I attempt to solve my patients’ problems by laying out all possible treatment options beginning with non invasive and sometimes an alternative to a traditional approach. After a thorough discussion of all possible treatments and their ramifications, I urge my patients to take the lead in making a careful final decision. If surgery is a possible treatment option, I always encourage the least invasive procedures first. By combining the latest technical developments in the specialty with over two decades of experience, I help my patients choose a sound and sensible treatment plan. Above all, communication is the cornerstone of my practice.

Receiving Your Healthcare from Kaiser Permanente

I have been part of Kaiser Permanente for over 16 years. During that time, I am proud to say that I have seen Kaiser Permanente evolve into a world class healthcare system. On a daily basis, I work with my long time co-workers in various departments in solving my patients' problems.

I left private practice because at Kaiser Permanente everyone is working for the delivery of first class healthcare. In over 16 years, no one has ever questioned my decisions to perform needed surgery or hospitalize my patients. I only encounter encouragement and help with my patients and their problems. I have never had to obtain permission for a diagnostic test or any kind of treatment. Kaiser Permanente is a wonderful place in which to provide patient care.

About Me

I was born in Long Beach, California and moved with my family to Nevada City, California when I was ten. I spent an idyllic youth hiking, camping, fishing, and horseback riding. I attended several colleges and in the mid sixties finally settled into the turmoil of U.C. Berkeley where I studied economics and history. Still living in Berkeley, I worked my way through a master’s degree in immigration history at San Francisco State University. Thereafter, I took science courses and went to medical school in Belgium. Returning home, I completed my internship and residency prior to returning to northern California in 1987 and starting a private practice. In 1988, I joined The Permanente Medical Group.

I am an assistant clinical professor in Ob/Gyn at U.C. Davis Medical School and recently finished a term of being in charge of rotating medical students. When on-call, I still enjoy teaching medical students and residents. In the year 2000, I received a national university professor’s teaching award. I am a member of the American College of Ob/Gyn and The Northern California Ob/Gyn Society.

My Credentials

Medical school Vrije Universiteit Brussel-faculteit Der Geneeskunde En Farmacie, Brussels, Belgium
Internship Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, GA
Residency Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, GA
Board certification Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology

My Outside Interests

I devote my spare time to my family. I enjoy gardening, fishing, and powder skiing with my wife and son. I also spend hours in my large garden, and I am still an avid eclectic reader of histories and novels.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
