How to Use My Home Page...

My Biography

I decided to become a specialist in child behavior and development because that is the part of pediatrics which I enjoy the most. I had previously worked at Kaiser Permanente in Marin as a general pediatrician, and my father is a retired Kaiser Permanente doctor from the southern California region. I’ve been a Kaiser member since high school.

At Kaiser San Francisco, I enjoy the collegiality of the pediatrics department. Here, I find a more social practice as opposed to the more isolated nature of private practice. Kaiser also supports a socially progressive milieu within the department, and in its approach to health care in general.

Every patient and family has a different story to tell, one that is usually unique and moving. I feel privileged to have this kind of entrée into patients’ lives. I evaluate children with a broad range of behavioral and developmental disorders.

I enjoy cooking, and I am a committed exerciser, especially on the elliptical trainer. I do about an hour on the elliptical daily, and I can read a good book while I am on it. Exercising is the best stress buster ever! I find that I am in a better frame of mind to reassess problems after a good workout. I love to goof around with my kids, and we have both a dog and a cat.

Undergraduate Education: University of California at San Diego
Professional Affiliations: Fellow, American Academy of Pediatrics; Society for Behavioral and Developmental Pediatrics
Began Practice: 1981
Joined Kaiser Permanente: 1993

Why a Pediatrician

Why a pediatrician? Why do kids need a specialist? Because kids are different. And so are the doctors that choose to take care of kids.

Pediatrics is the medical specialty that is fully focused on kids: from birth through the exciting and tumultuous years of adolescence.

Pediatricians are trained for 4 years in medical school to become a doctor and then have three full years of extra training in how to take care of kids and teens. Some pediatricians have additional training in a subspecialty area like cardiology, pulmonology, or hematology. Our department has general pediatricians and specialist pediatricians to make sure that your children stay healthy and, if they get sick, that they get the best care possible.

Pediatricians believe that your children start healthy. We are trained to focus on prevention of problems and work with families for the betterment of children. We love children and, in truth, most of us are big kids ourselves.

In the pediatric department, we look forward to caring for your family as it grows.
