About Me

I was born in Poughkeepsie, New York and grew up on a farm about 20 miles away in the small town of Stanfordville, New York. Though neither of my parents graduated from college, the importance of education was always emphasized in my family. Thanks to scholarships and loans along the way, I was able to get what my parents could not afford. My college career was interrupted by the draft and I spent three years in the Army as an enlisted man from 1966 through 1968. During the last year, I served a tour in Viet Nam as an artilleryman. I was fortunate to live through the experience unharmed though there were a few close calls. I returned to college with new motivation and medicine proved to be the perfect career choice for me.

I attended New York Medical College in New York City (now in Valhalla, New York). I then did my Internship at Highland Hospital in Oakland. I went on to complete a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Oakland, California. In July 1979, I joined Ob-Gyn Department at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo. I have been here ever since because of my respect for my colleagues and of my regard for my patients. I am board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and I am a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
