About Me

For information about my education, training, and credentials, please refer to the My Credentials section below.

My Healthcare Practice

I am a pathologist with additional fellowship training and certification in cytopathology. This means that I examine tissue specimens removed from patients with both my eye and my microscope. By studying a sample of tissue, I make a diagnosis. This pathologic evaluation is often an integral part of the diagnosis and treatment of patients. I decided to do this because I discovered in medical school that I enjoy looking at tissue under the microscope. I have an inclination for analytical thinking and feel fulfilled in using it to help treat patients.

Why I Choose Kaiser Permanente

I have been a part of Kaiser Permanente for over 10 years. Over that time I have come to appreciate the close cooperation I have with the Kaiser physicians. It is easy for me to call any of them and discuss my findings.

I enjoy my practice at Kaiser because I have the freedom to concentrate my practice on making diagnoses. I enjoy working with the other physicians at Kaiser and being part of a team. I am an active participant at tumor conferences, where decisions are made to determine the best treatment options for our patients.

My Outside Interests

I have a wife, Barbara, and two children, Michael and Eric. We are all native Californians. Before joining Kaiser, I served three years as a physician in the US Navy. Weight training, which complements my more cerebral profession, has been a long term hobby of mine. I have coached scholastic chess and have assisted in organization of local scholastic tournaments. My additional time is spent reading philosophy and literature.
