My Profession and Why I Chose It

Thank you for visiting my home page. My name is Dr. Hoa Nguyen and I am a family practice physician. I chose family practice because it gives me a chance to establish a relationship with my patients as well as care for many different conditions.

You could probably consider me the Swiss army knife of physicians. I have training in dermatology, cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, endocrinology, orthopedics, obstetrics/gynecology, psychiatry, emergency medicine, surgery, radiology, hematology, pediatrics, otolaryngology, urology, anesthesiology, etc. (I am surprised myself when I think about all the stuff that I have had to learn over the years). All this training was worth it because it gave me the tools I need to take care of most of the problems that you may have. It also helps me because I am more aware of what I do NOT know and will get you to the appropriate specialist.

My Credentials

Medical school Mercer University School of Medicine, Macon, GA
Internship Valley Medical Center, Fresno, CA
Residency Memorial Hospital, Chattanooga, TN
Board certification Family Medicine, American Board of Family Medicine

My Practice Philosophy

If you choose me as your personal physician, you need to understand that our relationship will be based on trust. You can trust that as your doctor I have your best interest at heart. Our relationship will be a partnership for your health. I will do my best to explain why certain things are appropriate and we will decide together what should be done. It is going to be important that you are an active participant in your health.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been a physician at Kaiser Permanente since 1998.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I must tell you that it has been a wonderful experience thus far. It is so nice to have the freedom to order tests and request consults without having to get permission from anyone. I have found people to be friendly and understanding. I love having the ability to get the vital information I need to care for you while you are in my office via the computer.

My Personal History

Here are a few facts about me: I was born in Saigon, Vietnam. I was raised in Georgia since age 8. I got married and was forced to move out of Georgia (my wife told me, “there is no way I am going to live in Georgia!”). I have been blessed with 3 wonderful kids (2 boys, 1 girl). I have a 7.6 handicap in golf.

In addition to English, I speak some Vietnamese.

I work very hard and only take short vacations to ensure that I am accessible and available to you.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
