INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my home page and to the Department of Gastroenterology. I hope you find the information helpful. Please use the links to the left to access other useful information. I am one of five gastroenterologists who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the digestive system, liver, and pancreas. To provide you with the very best care, I collaborate frequently with your primary care physician, surgeon, nurses, and health educators.

MY QUALIFICATIONS

I received my undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Alberta (Canada). I completed my Internal Medicine residency training, including a year of chief residency at UC Davis. I left California to complete my Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of New Mexico. I am board certified by the American board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology; and also appointed as an associate clinical professor of Medicine at UC Davis.

MY PRACTICE

I have been on staff at Kaiser Permanente since I completed my training in 1990. I chose Kaiser as the best place to practice because I believe in this system: Both patient and the physician share the same incentive to provide high quality, personalized health care. I also enjoy working in a fully integrated medical group, being surrounded by highly-trained and well-qualified colleagues, and having unrestricted autonomy in making medical decisions.

In my practice, I try very hard to listen and understand my patients. I treat every one with dignity and respect. I feel strongly that the best medical outcomes are achieved when patients are involved and engaged in their health care decisions. My professional interests include cancer screening, viral hepatitis and inflammatory bowel disease.

ABOUT MYSELF

I was born and raised in western Canada. The ethnic origin of my last name is Hungarian, to answer a frequently asked question. I am married to wonderful and supportive wife who is also a physician. We have three very active daughters. We enjoy living in northern California, especially the dry climate and the proximity to both the ocean and mountains. When not working or attending the children's activities, we enjoy biking, water sports, skiing, gardening and gourmet cooking.

My Credentials

Medical school University of Alberta School of Medicine, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Residency UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, CA
Fellowship University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Albuquerque, NM
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine
Board certification Gastroenterology, American Board of Internal Medicine

Disclaimer
If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
