If you happen to need the services of our South Sacramento Emergency Department during the night, chances are good that I will be working.

I have been at South Sacramento since 1989 and have been working just night shifts, part-time for three years. My husband and I are busy with our school-age children, dog and everyone’s activities, so working the night shift allows me to do the work I enjoy and still be around for my family.

I try to remember that most people who come to the E.D. would rather not be there as it is sometimes chaotic. We are trained to handle any emergency and can frequently complete the care that is needed. During my years of working in Emergency Medicine, I have found that treating patients and families with respect and kindness helps make a difficult time a little easier.

I am originally from a small copper mining town in Arizona. As a person of Mexican heritage, I speak Spanish and am familiar with the culture.

My first career was as a registered nurse. I went to UCLA after medical school to do my residency in Emergency Medicine. Many people do not realize that Emergency Medicine is a separate specialty with its own training program and board certification. I worked in East Los Angeles at a busy intercity hospital for two years before coming to Kaiser permanente. I am proud to work at Kaiser where I have found my colleagues in the department and our specialty staff to be of the highest quality.

My Credentials

Medical school University of Arizona College of Medicine, Tucson, AZ
Internship Los Angeles County-Harbor-UC Los Angeles Medical Center, Torrance, CA
Residency UC Los Angeles Medical Center, Los Angeles, CA
Board certification Emergency Medicine, American Board of Emergency Medicine

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
