My desire to become a physician began during my second year of college at the University of Miami. I had taken a part time job as an orderly in a local hospital to help pay my college expenses. There I met an outstanding and caring physician who passionately talked to me about the medical profession. He would let me accompany him to see patients in the emergency room and I observed how special the interaction was between the doctor and his patients. From that moment, I knew medicine would be my future profession.

I chose obstetrics and gynecology because this field allowed the opportunity to practice many different aspects of medicine at the same time, such as surgery, medicine and psychology. Obstetrics and Gynecology is also, I believe, the happiest field of medicine. It is impossible to describe my joy of helping to bring a new life into the world (even at 3am in the morning).

I joined Kaiser Permanente Sacramento Medical Center on Morse Ave in July 1980. I was intrigued by the idea of a group practice where everything was under one roof, and physicians could concentrate on caring for patients rather than filling out insurance forms, dealing with bureaucrats or running a business. Three years later, I became chief of the OB-Gyn department at the new South Sacramento clinic.

During the next 20 years we grew from a four member department to a staff that now consists of 22 physicians, 7 nurse practitioners, 6 certified nurse midwives, a state of the art perinatal service and a satellite clinic in Elk Grove. Our practice has also advanced with the advent of computerized charting, laboratory data and prescriptions that allow us to care for you in a safer, more comprehensive manner.

Through all of the growth and change, there is nothing more satisfying than being someone's personal physician. The technology of medicine may change over the years, but the importance of the special relationship between my patients and myself is what keeps me as excited about medicine today as it did 35 years ago when I had my first job as an orderly.

I hope that you find my home page useful in maintaining and improving your health. If I can be of any help to you, or if you encounter any concerns with the OB-Gyn Department you can contact me through the call center at 916-688-2055 or you can use the E-mail Your Doctor link above. Please allow a couple of days for me to return your call.

I am extremely proud to be chief of the South Sacramento OB-Gyn department, and I look forward to meeting you in the future.
