Hello. Welcome to my home page!
I am Dr. Robert Reisfeld. I have been a psychiatrist for 25 years. I chose the field because it gives me the opportunity to interact with people on a more personal and psychological basis than other fields of medicine. It allows me to have meaningful interactions with my patients. I have been a Kaiser Permanente physician at the Redwood City facility since 1985. Prior to that, I was in solo psychiatric practice in Berkeley, CA. My undergraduate college degree is from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. I graduated from Wesleyan in 1969. I worked in business and in accounting before attending medical school from 1974-1978 at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, LA. I did my internship and residency in psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco, from 1978 to 1982.
I have very much enjoyed my professional career here at Kaiser Permanente. It has allowed me to spend most of my professional time working with our members in a professional partnership between doctor and patient. This practice mode also allows me to work within my philosophical beliefs about mental health issues: the idea of psychological and mental issues as problems to be dealt with, as opposed to “disorders and illness.” These problems can be approached in many different ways – with individual talk therapy, education, group therapy, family therapy, and/or medications.
I do have a number of professional interests and affiliations outside of my clinical practice. I have been involved for many years with the San Mateo County Medical Association, serving on the Board of Directors of that organization. I also serve as a Delegate to the House of Delegates of the California Medical Association. These two organizations help the medical profession influence the delivery of health care, and protect patients and physicians rights.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
