About me
I have been in the Ob/Gyn department at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland since 1987-- first as a resident physician, then on staff since 1991. The combination of primary care for women plus surgery really agrees with me. I enjoy teaching resident physicians and have a particular interest in medical ethics.
I live in Berkeley with my husband, Jack, and our three children. Here we are at Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada.
Community is important to me and I try to stay involved locally. I play violin in the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and even went into labor with my second child while playing a concert. I grow orchids and carnivorous plants.
It is important to me that we work together to optimize your health. Let me know how I can be of help to you. I am very happy as a physician in The Permanente Medical Group. I look forward to continuing my work as your family's gynecologist for my full career.

How to reach me
I love the secure messaging system! If you have an urgent need, call (510) 752-1080, but otherwise, secure messaging is a much better way to reach me. Once you have established a username and password (by going to www.kp.org - click the KP.org Members Home link at the top of this page), you’ll be able to e-mail me directly through the Email your doctor link also found on this page (just above My Office Hours). I check messages at least once daily. When I’m in the office, I check them frequently.
If you need to make an appointment to see me, the best way is to schedule online by clicking the Appointments/Rx refills tab at the top of this page. There you can also directly book a mammogram if you are over 39.

Do you need to lose some weight? Join me!
November 30, 2008: I have established a goal of getting my weight down to the normal range (BMI of less than 25)! I’m starting at a BMI of 31.7 (in the “obese” range), so I have a way to go. To help, I have joined Weight Watchers. Here’s a link to Kaiser Permanente sponsored weight programs (including Weight Watchers).
January 4, 2009: So far, I have lost 9.4#. BMI= 30.1 I’m feeling lighter! Do you know your BMI? Check it here: Body mass index calculator
May 1, 2009: I've lost 17# so far, down to a BMI of 28.7. I'm still "overweight", but out of the "obese" category. In one way, it seems like it's taken a long time to get this amount of weight off, but it went on over a period of many years. My goal is to get it off and keep it off. So, slow and steady is just fine!
Feel free to send me an e-mail with your personal weight loss goals and successes! There are so many benefits to getting down to an ideal weight: lower blood pressure, less chance of having a stroke, lower cholesterol, lower diabetes risk and reduced strain on our joints.
