Welcome to My Home Page

My greetings to established Kaiser Permanente Members and to new members. Please review my home page. I feel I can serve you better in the context of a personal relationship. I have included in this page some relevant personal information, information about my training, and medical practice. This page allows me to direct Kaiser Permanente Members to Internet health care resources that I believe to be reliable. If you have any questions, let me know when we meet next time.

About Me

I was born in India. My family owned farming land for generations in a delta area in Andhra Pradesh, which is a south central state in India. My paternal grandfather was a freedom fighter and my whole family was actively involved in the struggle to free India from British rule. My father, who passed away approximately seven years ago, was well known for his generosity, kindness, and his love for farming. Women in my family served as my role models, they all had high expectations that our family members maintain the family tradition of being leaders in the community. My parents placed great emphasis on education and it was expected that my siblings and I would proceed with a college education. I chose a career in medicine, later a residency in general psychiatry, and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. I felt this would be an excellent match for my strengths and talents. I derive great satisfaction in leading a productive life and being of service to my fellow human beings.

I graduated from Sri Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, India in 1973. After completing a year and a half of internship at the Government General Hospital in Kakinada, India I arrived in this country in 1976 with my husband. I worked as a house officer at Hollywood Memorial Hospital, Hollywood, Florida from 1977 to 1978. From 1978 to 1979 I did an internship at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, Kentucky. My first year of residency in general psychiatry was from 1979 to 1980 at the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, Miami, Florida and my last two years of general psychiatry residency training was at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York.

My husband, oldest son, and I moved to California in 1982. From 1982 to 1995 I worked primarily at Napa State Hospital as a staff psychiatrist and also did part time work for Contra Costa County Mental Health and Santa Clara County Mental Health. During this time I also provided medical consultation to Charis Group Home for Youth in Castro Valley, California. Between 1985 and 1987 I completed a 2-year fellowship program in child and adolescent psychiatry at Napa State Hospital, Napa, California and Children’s Hospital, Oakland, California.

I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1995. This organization has given me the opportunity to practice state of the art psychiatry in a group practice setting. I have found working here is personally rewarding as I can easily contact my colleagues in other departments for referrals and consultations.

The Department of Mental Health at the Pleasanton facility, especially the child and family team, has expanded since I joined Kaiser Permanente. Currently our Mental Health Department is staffed by a team of experienced and skilled clinicians as well as a great support staff. The child and family team, which I am member of, is staffed by social workers, psychologists, and child psychiatrists. The child and family team meets on a weekly basis to develop programs, review cases, and provide consultation and support for team members. This meeting time has also provided team members an opportunity to discuss recent advances in child and adolescent psychiatry. The child and family team in Pleasanton also meets with the Pediatric Department to coordinate care for members who are served by both departments. I currently serve as the Associate Chief of Psychiatry for the Pleasanton Mental Health Department. In this role, I look forward to establishing close links with other departments so that our members can be served more efficiently. I see members of all age groups in my practice.

I am a member of:

  • American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Alameda-Contra Costa Medical Association
  • California Medical Association

My husband, who practices Vascular and General Surgery in the East Bay, and I have been married for 26 years. Together we have raised two beautiful children. Even though both my children were born and raised in this country, they have had the privilege of being exposed to Indian culture through their participation in Chinmaya Mission organization.

I have studied Vedanta under the guidance of Chinmaya Mission teachers. This experience has given me the mental clarity and stamina to raise a family and practice psychiatry in this country. My other interests include yoga, Pilates, cardiac kickboxing, hiking, and trekking.

I have included pictures of my home in India (Andhra Pradesh) and trip to Tibet. I am hoping these pictures will give you a glimpse of who I am.
