About Me
Thank you for visiting my home page. I view this page as a nice way to introduce myself to my patients and point my patients to some Internet health care resources that I believe to be reliable. My home page contains information for my patients and families on staying healthy, treating illness, and preparing for visits to the doctor. Before well child care visits, please check out the Before Your Well Care Visit information on my home page.
I have worked in the Department of Pediatrics at Kaiser Permanente Pleasanton Medical Offices since 1995. When I was growing up, I always wanted to become a pediatrician. I have always enjoyed working with children and families and had an interest in preventing illness and injuries. Prevention is especially important for children because most deaths and many illnesses in childhood are preventable. Injury prevention and immunizations are important aspects of keeping children healthy. When I was in medical school, Kaiser Permanente impressed me as an organization that was focused on prevention and keeping people healthy. When I completed my pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital in Oakland, I chose Kaiser Permanente as the only employer I wanted to work for.
I see patients on Monday and Thursday as a general pediatrician at Kaiser Permanente Pleasanton. The other days I work at the Kaiser Permanente Regional Offices in Oakland as the Director for Prevention and Health Information for Northern California. In this role, I provide the leadership for the preventive services for all Kaiser Permanente Members in Northern California. The prevention reminders on your registration slip when you visit our clinics, “Healthy Kids – Healthy Futures” tip sheets and Healthy Beginnings newsletters are some of the projects which I have developed. I am currently working on tobacco, obesity and the electronic medical record. I also teach the breastfeeding class at Kaiser Permanente Pleasanton with my wife Karen. Breastfeeding is another important way to keep your child healthy. Karen and I are committed to providing all of our breastfeeding mothers with the education and support they need to successfully breastfeed.
I have two children, Michael and Erica. Both are in high school and spend most of their free time (and my free time) playing soccer on traveling teams. Michael and I are Eagle Scouts and I work as an Assistant Scout Master for his troop. I recently had the pleasure of backpacking for 10 days with Michael at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. A photo of Michael and I on the summit of the Tooth of Time at Phimont is shown below.
Along with backpacking, I also enjoy fishing, biking, cooking and home improvement projects.
