Stay Healthy

Learn how to stay healthy by reviewing the Prevention Guidelines For Adults. One way of maintaining your health is following the guidelines and getting the recommended tests done, even if you feel well.

Access the Health Encyclopedia for information on conditions, prevention, home treatments, and when to call your doctor. Many patients find this information helpful when they have a muscle injury (like back pain) or have cold symptoms and want to know what home remedies to try or what symptoms to look out for prior to seeing a doctor. See La guía en español for information in Spanish.

Check out the Healthy Living Resources link at the left. Figure out your Body Mass Index (BMI), pregnancy due date, number of calories burned (with the Health Calculators) as well as getting healthy recipes. You can also get a customized health care plan just for you from the Healthy Lifestyles Program. You can get a comprehensive health evaluation and/or personalized programs on how to manage weight, reduce stress, quit smoking, or making healthy eating choices by filling out an easy questionnaire.

Need a coach? Get the motivation you need to begin a exercise program or to eat better by clicking on the Online Health Coach. An excellent video on Weight Management is available by accessing the Online Education.

Getting Healthier

The handouts I use most commonly after an office visit are available by clicking on the Patient Education Handouts. If I recommended a particular handout during a recent office visit, you will find it right here.

If you live with asthma, high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, heart disease (coronary artery disease), congestive heart failure, or emphysema (COPD), find helpful information by clicking on the Chronic Conditions Management.

For members who need to decide whether to start coumadin for atrial fibrillation (a heart condition), to start medication for toenail or fingernail fungus, to start cholesterol lowering medication, or a chiropractor is necessary for a recent back injury, check out the Medical Decision Making.

Finally, feel free refer your friends and family to my home page, as well as provide me feedback on how to make it more useful for you.

My Healthcare Practice and Philosophy

For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to become a physician. Because I wanted to help my friends and family, I chose the field of family medicine because it is a comprehensive specialty with the focus on the whole patient and preventive health.

I believe that a doctor-patient relationship is truly a shared partnership. I also feel that patients can best protect their health by being advocates for themselves and being pro-active.

I chose Kaiser Permanente for a variety of reasons. As a physician at Kaiser, I do not need to prior authorization or pre-approval from an insurance company to provide care, order tests, or prescribe medications. As a result, I can focus all of my attention to caring for you. We encourage members to take advantage of the many excellent educational programs and classes both in person and online to help you improve your health. Finally, what impressed me is that as an organization we continue to focus on medical research, the use of information technology, and employing the best physicians to provide our members high quality medical care.

My office is located in the Mott Building, on the 2nd floor in the Medicine 2 unit. I am fortunate to work with a dedicated team of excellent adult medicine physicians. Since 2005, I started working part-time and added some administrative duties to my clinical practice. I am not in the office on Mondays and also twice a month on Thursdays. On the days I am not available, you should know that you will receive great care from my colleagues should you require an office visit (see Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)).

My Qualifications

I graduated from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. I returned home and attended medical school at the University of Connecticut. In 1997, I moved to California to complete a family medicine residency at the Glendale Adventist Medical Center, a private community hospital in Los Angeles. I joined Kaiser Permanente in 2000.

My Outside Interests

Growing up in Canada, one of my true loves was playing ice hockey. During medical school, I began attending theater productions and ballroom dancing classes. While in Los Angeles, I continued to refine my dance, specifically swing dancing.

I have also authored a book called Stay Healthy, Live Longer, Spend Wisely - Making Intelligent Choices in America's Healthcare System which gives patients information they need to make smart choices about their health.

Be sure to browse my home page for additional information regarding appointments, prescriptions, health education classes and other health-related topics.
