Hello and Welcome to my Home Page!
My name is Mary Alice SUSCA (soo-skuh) and I am a speech and language therapist. Our service is by referral. Speech and language pathologists (the formal name for licensed speech therapists) may work with people of any age. At Kaiser Permanente my job gives me the opportunity to work with both children and adults who have medical speech therapy needs. I see patients with voice problems such as severe hoarseness. I evaluate children whose speech may not be developing normally. I assess and work with people who have difficulty swallowing foods or liquids. I work with people who have had strokes and may have unclear speech or trouble getting their words out. I also work with patients who have had accidents and may have trouble remembering things or can no longer read and write as they used to do.
About Me
I have been a speech pathologist since 1980. I graduated from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a degree in French. I received my graduate degree in Speech Pathology from the George Washington University in Washington, DC. I enjoy learning languages and I speak both French and Spanish.
Since receiving my speech license, I have always worked in medical settings. I came to Kaiser Permanente in 2002. I really enjoy working for Kaiser Permanente and am proud to provide services as a part of an integrated medical “team”.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and children. I also love to travel, read, go to the movies and concerts, and explore San Francisco. I am an ardent paper crafter.
My Philosophy of Care
When I became a speech therapist, it was because I believe that the ability to communicate is fundamental to achieving our human potential. Those who have difficulties communicating are less able to fulfill their hopes and dreams. I believe that every person should have access to the highest level and most fluent communication skills possible. I am here to help those with communication differences gain the schooling, the employment, and the social skills they need.
Thank you for visiting my home page. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome and I look forward to seeing you.
