Pulmonary diseases are some of the most frustrating and debilitating of all diseases. In this day and age of multiple specialties involved in patient care, I sometimes worry if my patients are getting lost in the system. I was very excited to join Kaiser, as I think the system here provides better physician access, and easier physician to physician communication, so that we can provide better care to patients.

Along with discussing treatment options with patients, I try to make sure that patients understand what their disease is, and what to expect with this disease. I like my patients to get involved with their healthcare, to ask questions, and to read my notes as I write them in the office. There are no secrets between us. The better you understand your disease, the better you understand the plan on how we are going to treat your disease, the healthier and happier you will be.

I very much enjoy teaching, and spend 1 week a month teaching Physicians in Training at the Intensive Care Unit at the Kaiser Oakland facility.

I am relatively fluent in Spanish and Vietnamese, and in general, I especially welcome all patients in whom English is their second language.

On a personal note, I grew up in Southern California, went to college at Cal, and am an energetic Cal Football and Los Angeles Lakers Fan.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
