My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a gastroenterologist. This deals with diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, liver and pancreas. This specialty offers some unique opportunities to visualize and treat some diseases inside the body with a wide variety of specialized tools. It also relies heavily on cognitive skills and a strong understanding of general internal medicine, so I think it's a perfect combination.

My Practice Philosophy

My goal is for my patients to be well informed about their current health problems and the plan of action to deal with them. I strive to take a logical approach to ordering tests and to not order everything under the sun. I believe in being thorough and aggressive when the situation calls for it. I also believe that quality of life is more important than quantity and will recommend against an aggressive approach to a problem when the chance for benefit is small. Finally, patient preference is always important in my clinical decision making.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I started at Kaiser Permanente Southern California in 2003 with the internal medicine residency program and continued there as a gastroenterology fellow. I came to Kaiser Permanente in Northern California in July 2009.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I believe the system in place at Kaiser Permanente is one of the most efficient and effective methods of delivering health care in the country. My wife and I have been Kaiser members for 31 years (both born at the same hospital in Bellflower) and have never been disappointed. As a physician I enjoy the wealth of information readily available to me to guide my decision making. The years of GI experience in our department numbers in hundreds which never leaves me wanting for someone to ask for advice. Finally, the nurses here in Roseville are the best I've worked with. I couldn't imagine working anywhere else.

Professional Interests & Affiliations

On a Personal Note

I am married and I have one son. I enjoy fishing, camping, playing electric bass and watching college football. I also maintain a salt water reef tank. By far I have the best time watching my son play basketball.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
