Thank you for your interest in the Kaiser East Bay Department of Surgery. My role in the department is to provide comprehensive thoracic surgical care for our patients.
Thoracic care refers to ailments of the organs of the chest including the heart, lungs, esophagus, rib cage, diaphragm, and airways. Majority of our patients present to us for thoracic cancer care, which is the area of my interest.
My training in medicine and surgery began with undergraduate training in biology and engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From there I went to Yale University School of Medicine for a degree in medicine followed by General Surgery training at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School. I completed my specialty training in Cardiothoracic Surgery, with an emphasis on Thoracic Surgery, at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.
My goal is to treat our patients in a caring, compassionate, and state of the art multidisciplinary environment. Fight against cancer requires many warriors, the patient, being the first. After that we need the surgeons, oncologists, radiation oncologists, pulmonologists, radiologist, nurses, and office staff, all on board. My goal is to continue to improve the fight, and the results, for our patients.
My wife and I have arrived in the Bay area with our little daughter Karina. We look forward to lasting relationships with the people we meet in this wonderful place.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
