My Biography

I came to San Francisco Medical Center because of the reputation of its hematopathology consult service and immunohistochemistry laboratory. Our lab serves as a regional center for immunohistochemistry consultative cases. The Pathology Department has a wealth of experiences and working here is an incredible opportunity for a novice hematopathologist. The amazing aspect of Kaiser Permanente is that physicians have the autonomy to order and perform any necessary testing, without having to worry about costs.

I love the field of pathology, and the aspects of my job that I enjoy most are deciphering and interpreting slides. In order to do this accurately, I apply lots of different kinds of clinical and laboratory information as well as constantly communicating with the patient’s physicians. I especially like working with issues around blood, such as leukemia and lymphoma. In my opinion, hematapathology is at the forefront of therapeutic and diagnostic development; it utilizes a lot of technology and I feel it is a cutting-edge subspecialty.

Outside of work, I enjoy hanging out with my dog, Cooper, spending time with my niece and nephew, and reading. I name Davis Sedaris and John Irving among my favorite authors. I also spend quite a bit of time listening to National Public Radio; in fact, David Sedaris is a contributor to This American Life. I THRIVE through hiking, bicycling, plenty of walking with my dog, and I’m trying to get back into running and swimming. Having a father who trained as a chef in China, I enjoy cooking, especially stir frying different types of vegetables, and tend to eat very little meat; I consider myself to be a “pseudo-vegetarian!”

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
