My Practice Philosophy

My patients are my highest priority. It is important that we work together on developing a plan of medical care that you can follow and succeed.

About Me

I was born in Tokyo, Japan and immigrated to San Jose when I was seven years old. I didn't speak any English. After my first day of school, my father asked if I knew what was going on, and I said "no." But after six months, I was fully immersed in my new environment and language. Although still fluent in Japanese, I am now told I don't even have an accent any more.

I attended Castilleja School for junior high and high school. This all-girls school instilled a sense of pride and confidence and taught me to set high goals. I headed east for college, attending Tufts University in Massachusetts where I received a degree in biology. Moving to New England from California was nearly as big a culture shock as when I first arrived in the United States from Japan. I discovered bagels, before they became a national trend, baked beans, and the curse of the Bambino. Although I often longed for sunny California, I decided to continue my education at Tufts University School of Medicine, graduating in 1995. My residency in obstetrics and gynecology was completed at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Baystate is the third largest acute care hospital in New England with 4,500 deliveries per year. During my residency, I received the Resident Teacher of the Year award. I continue to enjoy teaching and you may find Stanford medical students or one of our Santa Clara Ob/Gyn residents working with me in my clinic.

After 12 long years in the cold and snow, I decided to move back west. I spent two years in my independent practice in Fairfield. Then in 2001, I returned to the South Bay to join Kaiser Permanente. I feel fortunate to be part of a wonderful organization that allows me to practice medicine and direct the care of each patient based on their individual needs and requirements.

The majority of my time is spent at the Mountain View clinic, and I perform my surgeries and deliveries at Santa Clara Medical Center. In addition to my clinical duties, I am also the Assistant Chief of the Department of Ob/Gyn for the Santa Clara Medical Center.

I am fluent in Japanese and have number of patients who speak Japanese only. I am a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and an Associate Member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

My Interests

My areas of interest are adolescent gynecology, minimally invasive surgery and low risk obstetrics. I strongly believe that when I work as a team with my patients, we achieve better results. Betty Au is my helpful and knowledgeable medical assistant. Betty often helps me with my phone calls and questions from patients.

When I am not attending to my patients, I enjoy spending time with my husband and my two children. We enjoy exploring the Bay Area's many natural wonders. I am also an avid cook and like to try new foods and recipes.

I want to be certain all of your concerns are addressed. If you forget to ask a question during your visit, you may leave me a message at the above telephone number. Either, I, or my medical assistant, will return your call.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
