Thanks for visiting my home page. My name is Jason and I am a Gastroenterologist and had the privilege to join The Permanente Medical Group in 2008. My practice deals with the study, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions of the digestive system. I joined Kaiser Permanente so that my focus will be on your well-being, as I enjoy practicing medicine, not business. I am reminded daily of why I joined Kaiser: caring for wonderful and interesting patients, collegial interaction with my co-workers and the friendly and superb support staff at our facilities.
My Education and Your Education of GI Procedures (See links in text):
After graduation from San Jose State University I attended the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Western University in Pomona California. Rather than the traditional four year program, I spent a fifth year working on a dual degree of both a Doctorate and Masters in Education. I graduated with honors and both the Presidents and Vice-Presidents awards. From there I left sunny California for Cleveland Ohio. I would spend nearly 8 years at the Cleveland Clinic where I completed my Internal Medicine Residency, Gastroenterology Fellowship and Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy training. As a Therapeutic Endoscopist I may recommend for you (or your other doctor may recommend), for a variety of reasons, one of several procedures including a Colonscopy, EGD(or upper endoscopy), ERCP(intervention of the bile duct and/or pancreas), EUS (a special endoscopic ultrasound with or without biopsy of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver or lymph nodes), among other endoscopic procedures. Typically these procedures are all done with sedation. I had the opportunity to train with and befriend some of the best and brightest in the world of medicine while in Ohio; however after so long away from family we decided to come back to the west coast. During my time at the Cleveland Clinic I did research and wrote on a number of topics including Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Barrett’s Esophagus and multiple medical educational topics. It was during this time that I also wrote a popular resident and fellow handbook called Primo Gastro.
My Philosophy:
My view is that you and I will be partners in your healthcare. I will try my best to listen to your concerns, views and educate you about certain medical conditions (including the concept that not every problem is solved by taking a pill). When necessary we will develop an integrative approach towards your wellbeing that is based on both scientific merits and common sense, and that feels comfortable to you. Most importantly I will try to inspire you towards good health, because the ultimate decisions about your mind, body and spirit wellbeing will be yours!
About Me
Born and raised in San Jose California, I grew up in a traditional Italian Family complete with lots of loud, hand-waving, loving people. Sunday dinners were a tradition and anyone who showed up, besides our family, was always (and still is) invited without question. My world revolves around my family including my beautiful wife, Stephanie Yee-Guardino, DO and our three wonderful young children. We enjoy exploring new places and make frequent trips to Disneyland! I also enjoy computers, photography, and the outdoors.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
