About Me…

Welcome to my practice at Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center. Taking care of your health and well-being is very important. I find the different phases of a woman’s life/health very interesting and fascinating. I feel privileged to be a part of these phases of a woman’s life, and that is why I chose OB/GYN.

I was born and raised in Sri Lanka. I came to the United States as a freshman at Stanford, where I was an electrical engineering major. However, my dream was to become a doctor. After graduating from Stanford University, I obtained my medical degree from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. I then completed a residency with Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

I have been at Kaiser San Jose since 1999. I am Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. My clinical interests include urogynecology, menopause, dysplasia and minimally invasive surgery. In addition to English, I am fluent in Sinhalese and can speak medical Spanish. I spend my leisure time with my family as well as cooking and gardening. I also enjoy traveling, hiking, biking, and tennis.

My Philosophy of Care…

Patient well-being, happiness, and satisfaction are of utmost importance to me. I like to consider the human body as a whole, and integrate all aspects of life (spiritual, physical, and emotional) into taking care of my patients. Having patients get involved in the decision-making process regarding treatment matters to me a lot. My father always said, "Do the best you can.”

In my medical practice, as well as in my life, my philosophy is, “Do the best, and do no harm." I try using medical treatment first, minimally invasive surgery when necessary, and reserving major surgery for when it is warranted.

My Recommendations…

Take time for yourself, and for your health. Take time especially to nourish your inner self. Spend time with family and friends. Keep up with your regular appointments, immunizations and always pay attention to preventative care check list. Learn from the experiences from yesterday, enjoy the precious moments of today, and look forward to the miracles of tomorrow.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
