Congratulations-you’re expecting!
If this is your first pregnancy, you probably have a lot of questions about what will happen before, during, and after this amazing event. Even if you have given birth before, you may be wondering who will be delivering your baby, what type of surroundings you’ll be in and what kind of care you’ll receive there. At Kaiser Permanente San Jose, we can help you answer these questions, so you and your baby can have the safest best “birthday” possible.
San Jose Medical Center is pleased to offer you Midwifery care both in the clinic and for the delivery of your baby. Our CNMs are certified by the American College of Nurse Midwives. CNMs earn a nursing degree, then obtain either a Master’s degree or certification in Nurse-Midwifery. This prepares them to manage prenatal care, delivery of babies and family planning following delivery. They practice in the hospital setting where OB/GYN Doctors are available should complications arise.
Our goal is to provide you with a safe and healthy birth experience that meets your personal goals and expectations. We want you to have your choice of pain relief, support person and laboring environment whenever possible.
Please feel free to make prenatal appointments with the Nurse-Midwives in the clinic. You can ask at the reception desk or Non-Urgent Messages may be left at 972-6959, one of the Midwives will return your call within 72 hours.
To learn more about our nurse-midwives and see links for helpful pregnancy information go to: KP.org and search for our midwives by name.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
