I am a Neurointensivist and Stroke Specialist at Kaiser Redwood City. Neurointensivists are Intensive Care Unit (ICU) doctors with a background in Neurology. At Kaiser Redwood City, the Neuroscience Center of Excellence encompasses Neurosurgery, Interventional Neuroradiology, and Neurocritical Care.

I treat patients with stroke, intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), subdural hematomas (SDH), epidural hematomas (EDH), hydrocephalus, elevated intracranial pressure (ICP), brain aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), and other conditions that lead to neurological critical illness. I work closely with the excellent Neurosurgeons and Interventional Neuroradiology here at Kaiser Redwood City and help treat many of their patients in the pre-operative and post-operative phases of care.

I chose the fields of Neurology, Neurocritical Care, and Stroke after coming to the practice of medicine from a background in basic Neurobiology. I love practicing medicine, particularly in the Neuroscience ICU setting. I am happy to be practicing at Kaiser Permanente, in a clinical environment where I know my patients will receive excellent primary and specialty care before, during, and after the illness that brings them to my attention.

I also maintain a strong interest in clinical outcomes research and quality assurance projects directed at improving patient care in my field. I believe that Kaiser Permanente, as an enclosed healthcare system with a rich medical informatics system, offers its physicians, members, and researchers an opportunity to further define the standard of evidence-based medicine and to continue to improve upon clinical outcomes.

I attended medical school and graduate school at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. My graduate work on the development of the cerebral cortex was in the Columbia Neuroscience department with Arnold R. Kriegstein, M.D., Ph.D.. I completed a Neurology residency at the Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University. My family and I then moved to California so I could obtain further postgraduate training in Neurocritical Care and Stroke at the University of California, San Francisco. I am board certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
