ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Many kids have trouble sitting still, keeping their minds on their work, and remembering directions, even when they really want to. They may find it hard to pay attention, even when they really try. Sometimes, the reason is that they have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD. If you uspect that your child has ADHD, I'd suggest the following evaluation:

  1. Meet with his teacher to see what the concerns are at school.
  2. If academic performance if suffering, insist that the school district psychologist test him/her for learning disabilities.
  3. Arrange for an evaluation for ADHD at my office. This will start with the parents and teachers filling out some forms. You can obtain these forms by calling the call center at 784-4190. When we receive the completed forms back from you, my office will call and set up an appointment to go over the results.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
