My Biography

I am a San Francisco native. In graduate school I conducted my dissertation research at the Kaiser Permanente Chronic Pain Management Centers in Hayward and San Francisco. I then completed my Postdoctoral Residency at Kaiser Permanente’s Chronic Pain Management Center in San Francisco. I have established a lengthy affiliation with Kaiser Permanente and can honestly say that I am proud to work for this organization.

Kaiser Permanente’s emphasis on prevention and health maintenance is exemplary. There is a push to help patients manage their health on a daily basis, rather than just reacting when problems arise. I believe Kaiser Permanente is a national leader in this preventative aspect of care. With Kaiser Permanente’s comprehensive health care model, I have the autonomy to practice psychology in the way I see fit, without the burden of bureaucratic concerns or patient recruitment. Areas of particular interest to me include health psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy/theory, and psychoanalytic theory. Incorporating these various theories into practice helps me to understand patients in a holistic sense: how mind and body are interdependent.

The environment within the Chronic Pain Management Center is stimulating. My colleagues are skilled in a range of specialties and modalities, and they are supportive, amazing professionals who care about what they do and put patients first. Our Center’s primary strength lies in our multidisciplinary approach to care.

My hobbies include skiing, playing guitar and conga drums, reading, and traveling. One of my most recent and memorable visits has been to Curacao, in the Caribbean. I keep healthy and active by biking, golfing, hiking, and walking to and from work. I make time to incorporate a daily stress-reducing meditation practice, and I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I am happily married to my wonderful wife, and have one cat named Zeno!

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
