My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a Radiation Oncologist. This means mostly I treat cancer patients with radiation therapy. In certain occasions, I also treat patients with "benign" conditions with radiation therapy.

My Practice Philosophy

"Treat others as though they are your own" — was passed down by my father.

My Credentials

Medical school Taipei Medical College, Taipei, Taiwan
Internship Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, VA
Residency National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD
Board certification Radiation Oncology, American Board of Radiology

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I have been with Kaiser Permanente since 2006.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

Being a radiation oncologist with a strong research background and clinical experience, I currently serve as the Director of Image-guided Radiotherapy of Kaiser at Sacramento. I am excited about this great opportunity to be able to provide high-quality radiation oncology care to patients in the Kaiser Permanente health system.

My Professional Interests and Affiliations

My clinical interests include combination chemoradiation for cancers including the central nervous system (brain tumors), stereotactic image-guided radiotherapy including radiosurgery for intracranial lesions, lymphomas and general radiation therapy.

My affiliations include the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology & Oncology (ASTRO); American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO); Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG); American Association of Cancer Research (AACR); North American Taiwanese Medical Association (NATMA); Society of Chinese Bioscientists in America (SCBA).

On a Personal Note…

I received my M.D. degree from Taipei Medical University in Taipei, Taiwan. I also received a Ph.D. degree from the Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology program of the Johns Hopkins Medical School. I conducted basic medical science research prior to returning to medical practice. I completed my Internship at the Fairfax Hospital/Georgetown University Hospital in Northern Virginia, and Radiation Oncology Residency at the National Cancer Institute, NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. I was Assistant Professor of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee; Assistant Professor of the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California; and Associate Professor of the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California, prior to joining Kaiser Permanente. During my five years' tenure with UC Davis, I also served as the Director of the Stereotactic Radiosurgery Program.

I am married with a wonderful wife and two lovely daughters. In addition to English, I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
