I have worked as an Audiologist at Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento since 1997. I initially became interested in hearing science due to a family history of hearing loss and also because of noise-induced hearing loss I observed while working in the forest industry on semester breaks from college. I received a Master of Arts Degree in Audiology from CSU, Sacramento in 1978.

There have been many advances in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss, including newborn hearing testing, cochlear implants and digital hearing aids. I appreciate the Kaiser Permanente emphasizes patient/provider communication, state-of-the-art and innovative procedures and equipment and continual improvement.

Hearing loss particularly affects the oldest and the youngest age groups. It is important for seniors to have a hearing evaluation because we all lose some hearing due to aging. Hearing loss is invisible but it can cause social isolation and confusion and it is treatable.

Hearing loss in infants and preschoolers causes delays in speech and language development. I am surprised how many parents will say "I didn't think you could test hearing at this age".

In my off time I enjoy kayaking, hiking and playing music.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
