My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a neurologist. This means I help to evaluate, diagnose and treat conditions of the brain. I have specialized training in Movement Disorders. Movement Disorders is a subspeciality of neurology dedicated to Parkinson's disease and related disorders, Essential Tremor, Dystonia, Chorea, Tics, Gait abnormalities and other diseases of abnormal involuntary movements. I am part of a dedicated team of specialists focusing on surgical treatments of Parkinson's disease, Essential Tremor and Dystonia. I also evaluate patients who may benefit from Botulinum toxin injections for various movement disorders. I chose this subspecialty of neurology because it provided me multiple opportunites to help patients with conditions previously thought not to have many options.

My Practice Philosophy

My practice philosophy involves a multidisciplinary approach to a patient's condition. For example, patients with Parkinson's disease should have a neurologist, possibly a neurosurgeon, a neuropsychologist, the primary care physician, a physical therapist and a speech therapist all working together to be able to combat this progressive disorder. This should be coupled with patient education and understanding of the disease. So my second philosophy revolves around communication, not only between the patient and his physician but between the patient's many physicians.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

I was born in Los Angeles, CA at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center on Sunset Blvd in downtown LA. My health care has been with Kaiser all these years. It seemed only natural that I too would continue my career with Kaiser. Kaiser Permanente affords me the opportunity to work with other neurologists and physicians who are well respected in their fields. I am able to maintain a good workload as in private practice but still lead a healthy lifestyle. Kaiser Permanente values family as do I and appreciate whenever a patient brings his family or caregiver to an appointment. I have access to a hospital system that rivals some of the best academic centers. The bottom line...this is my dream job.

On a Personal Note

Just a little about me. I have been in Northern California for nearly 3 years. I have come to love it as it remains to be the heart of cultural diversity and tolerance in this country. The beauty of the surrounding area is unsurpassed, and I never miss an opportunity to discover new breathtaking sights.
