My Biography
I first came to San Francisco during a vacation, and I fell in love with the city. I decided to move here. I came to Kaiser Permanente because of the opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team within a collaborative working environment. I find working with patients here to be very rewarding, as I see an interesting social and socioeconomic mix of patients.
Kaiser Permanente is unique in that, within such a structured system, clinicians have autonomy to do evaluations, as well as the flexibility to provide methods and services in the way we see fit. I try to focus on solid relationships with peers. Clinicians truly care about their patients here, and I have a lot of fun with my colleagues, to boot!
I consult on a variety of issues. For example, I work with neurologists to assess patients presenting a wide variety of neurological problems. I perform psychiatric consultations on a wide range of issues concerning child psychiatric services. I also get to provide services to the Spanish-speaking community. I derive true satisfaction from doing a good job.
I have special interests in working with adolescents and parents. I am interested in ADHD, particularly as it manifests in females, and I did my dissertation on this topic. Obesity issues are another area of focus for me. I am a behavioral consultant with the Pediatric Weight Management Program.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling. I have been to Hawaii and Italy, and my goal is to travel to every country. I visit Maui about once per year as a personal retreat. I love to cook, and I enjoy reading fiction, bicycling, and walking. I keep healthy by visiting neighborhood farmers’ markets, eating healthy, and using the stairs instead of the elevators at the office. I like spending quality time with my teenage daughter and standard poodle!

Why a Pediatrician
Why a pediatrician? Why do kids need a specialist? Because kids are different. And so are the doctors that choose to take care of kids.
Pediatrics is the medical specialty that is fully focused on kids: from birth through the exciting and tumultuous years of adolescence.
Pediatricians are trained for 4 years in medical school to become a doctor and then have three full years of extra training in how to take care of kids and teens. Some pediatricians have additional training in a subspecialty area like cardiology, pulmonology, or hematology. Our department has general pediatricians and specialist pediatricians to make sure that your children stay healthy and, if they get sick, that they get the best care possible.
Pediatricians believe that your children start healthy. We are trained to focus on prevention of problems and work with families for the betterment of children. We love children and, in truth, most of us are big kids ourselves.
In the pediatric department, we look forward to caring for your family as it grows.
