Practice Philosophy: "Providing the highest quality care to my patients using the latest minimally invasive procedures to treat peripheral vascular disease."
Dr. Sivamurthy spent most of his life on the east coast. He was born in New York City and grew up on Long Island. Since childhood, he knew he wanted to be a physician and was influenced by his father, also a physician.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Chemistry and Philosophy from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He returned to New York City for his medical education at New York University. He then left "the city" to the cold of upstate New York.
He received his residency training in General Surgery at the University of Rochester in the Department of Surgery. In between his surgical residency, he took a sabbatical as the "Harvard-Longwood Research Fellow in Vascular Surgery". This fellowship is a highly selective and prestigious research fellowship in vascular surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. During this fellowship he performed "cutting edge" research in the molecular biology of vascular disease. His research was supported by the National Institutes of Health.
He lectured across the country and published in numerous prestigious journals during this time. He returned to Rochester, New York to complete his general surgery training. During this busy time, he published several papers and lectured on minimally invasive treatments for peripheral vascular disease. He ventured out of the cold to the west coast (much to the delight of his wife) to learn the latest minimally invasive techniques in vascular and endovascular surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He completed a fellowship in the highly acclaimed Department of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at UCSF. Then, he completed one of the premiere fellowships in the country in the world renowned Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at UCSF.
Dr. Sivamurthy received unique hybrid fellowship training at UCSF in vascular and interventional radiology and vascular surgery in one of the only programs of its kind in the country allowing him to offer the full spectrum of treatment options from catheter based minimally invasive therapy (angioplasty and stents) to traditional operative therapy for patients with vascular disease.
Dr. Sivamurthy received board certification from the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Sivamurthy is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, The American College of Surgeons, the E.J. Wylie Vascular Society, the University of Rochester Surgical Association, and the Santa Clara Medical Society.
Dr. Sivamurthy joined Kaiser Permanente in 2006. His research interests include minimally invasive treatments for stroke and carotid artery disease, aortic and peripheral aneurismal disease, and peripheral vascular disease. He has authored more than 30 articles in peer reviewed journals and has lectured at several national meetings.
Dr. Sivamurthy lives with his wife in Palo Alto. His personal interests include spending time with his family, travel, and scuba diving.
