My Biography
I came to Kaiser Permanente San Francisco because of its excellence in cardiovascular care. I enjoy providing the best medical care that I can, without concerning myself with front office business. I find no barriers here to providing the best possible medical care to my patients. Prevention is a major aim for Kaiser, but I am free to use the best medical practices and current technology I need for my patients.
I spend 85% of my time caring for patients in the intensive care units, and the remainder of time in the pulmonary clinic. While this schedule makes it hard to provide continuity for my clinic patients, this blend of both hospital and clinic care keeps my medical knowledge current and my clinical skills sharp.
As part of my doctorate work, I studied the immune response to viral infections of the central nervous system. During my fellowship training, I was particularly interested in understanding the pathophysiology of acute lung injury and the contribution of genetic polymorphism to sepsis. I am also interested in bringing pulmonary arterial hypertension clinical trials to Kaiser at some point. While Kaiser’s major theme is that of preventive medicine, I am at liberty to practice the best medicine and use the most up-to-date technology available, once supported by evidence-based medicine.
When away from the office, I enjoy playing golf, mountain biking, and hiking. I believe the best way to thrive is by practicing the power of positive thinking. I live with my wife, Ingrid, and a son and a daughter.
