OUR DEPARTMENT
Welcome to the Genetics Department. We are a subregional program providing a full range of genetic services for patients and families. At Kaiser Permanente in Northern California there are Genetics Departments at the facilities in San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose. For information about services in Oakland, Sacramento or San Jose, please contact them directly at the numbers provided.
Our skilled and caring team includes board certified clinical geneticist physicians, board certified genetic counselors, and a registered nurse - prenatal diagnosis coordinator.
OUR SERVICES
We provide genetic evaluation, testing and counseling for:
- Pregnant patients who are at risk of having children with genetic conditions or birth defects
- Follow-up for abnormal prenatal tests, including AFP, genetic carrier screening or abnormal ultrasound
- Pediatric and adult patients who have, or are at risk of having, a genetic condition or birth defect
- Inherited susceptibility to conditions such as cancer
HOW TO GET CARE
Telephone advice, counseling, coordination of services, and follow-up care are available. You may be referred to our department by your primary care physician, nurse practitioner or specialty provider, or you may call us directly.
Most patients are seen at the San Francisco campus. Some services are available in Oakland, Santa Rosa, San Rafael, and South San Francisco.
