My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). I chose medicine and care giving for my career at a very young age. My choice was guided by my desire to have my work benefit the community in which I lived. I was called to midwifery through serendipity and was immediately drawn in to the deep and rich environment of care to women throughout their lives.

My Qualifications

Board Certification American College of Nurse Midwives
Master of Science Nursing Nurse Midwifery and OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner University of California, San Francisco
Bachelor of Science Nursing, Public Health Certification California State University

My Practice Philosophy

Childbearing is such a dynamic time of life. My job provides me with the opportunity to provide an environment that encourages learning, communication and the incentive to make healthy choices for a woman and her baby during the time of pregnancy, birth and post partum.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I had my first experience with Kaiser Permanente in the early 90's when I was hired for the pilot program that brought nurse midwives to Northern California. I returned to Kaiser Permanente in 2006 here in the Sacramento Valley Community. I currently work in the Roseville clinic one day a week and take call at the Roseville Women's and Children’s Hospital two days a week.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

The Kaiser Permanente model of care is one that allows me as a practitioner the opportunity to meet with a rainbow of diverse populations. It also provides an integrated system of resources that allow for evidence based sound and comprehensive care.

Professional Interests & Affiliations

The practice of midwifery at Kaiser is focused around the process of childbearing. Childbirth by its nature is timeless. But as I mentioned before it is also dynamic. So to optimize my ability to give support to women I continue to go to local and national educational programs to learn from others. I have also had the role of teacher in both the nursing and midwifery professions.

On a Personal Note

I am a born and raised Californian. My husband and I have been together for a wonderful long time. We live in a rural place that provides much work, many rewards, and we have animals that share our lives. I have too many interests: photography, hiking, finer arts, etc. I love the ocean.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
