Bio 2009

My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I began my work in Women's Health in the 1970's as an RN. It was during that period of time that women began to move to take a more active role in their choices for childbirth. That movement drew me to the practice of nurse midwifery in 1987.

My Practice Philosophy

Informed choice is the cornerstone of my philosophy of practice. I am very rewarded by the opportunity to enable others to take good care of themselves and those in the circle of their lives. Equal opportunity and high levels of communication are the binding agents of good care; sharing the challenges and the joys make both our lives richer.

My Qualifications

Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park B.S.
University of California, San Francisco M.S.

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

My first association with Kaiser Permanente began in the early 1990's when midwifery was piloted into the Northern California region. My current practice with the Sacramento group began in 2001.

Why I Like Practicing Medicine at Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente is the model of care that has always been appealing to me. Practicing at Kaiser Permanente has provided an integration of resources, programs for prevention, and easy access to consultation. All these things allow for the midwife to share the benefits of a low intervention care and or accelerate to the solving of problems in a rapid manner.

On a Personal Note. . .

I live in the country. That means I have a garden, animals, and a lot of work. I have had a relationship with fiber art and photography for many years. I like to hike above the tree line when I hike. Yoga is a part of me. My husband and I have been married a long time. . .and plan a longer time to come.

Thank you for checking in today, I currently work 3 days a week and can be reached Sun-Tue through the net. If you want to reach me through the clinic you can call 916-474-4148 or the MA that works with me Silvia Zarate at 916-474-2392.
