About Me

My practice consists of reconstructive surgery of all major joints. These include arthroscopic surgery in the hip joint something that is increasingly being practiced only in centers highly specialized in treating early detected hip pathology such as “impingement” and “labrum tears”. I am also still doing total joint replacements for knees, hips and shoulders in cases of advanced arthritis.

I practiced in San Francisco starting July 1980. I moved to the Boston Area in December 2004 for a teaching sabbatical at The Cambridge Hospital, affiliated with the Harvard Medical School. I was involved in orthopedic research projects and taught medical students, interns and residents. Despite the intellectual stimulation of the environment, my wife and I missed Northern California greatly. So, after we returned to the Bay Area, I joined the Orthopedic Surgery department at Kaiser San Rafael in October 2005. Here I found an environment geared to excellence in the level of care to our patients linked to the intellectual stimulation of practicing among peers of the highest quality in the Nation.

My interest in keeping up with the latest developments in techniques and materials in my specialty is still high, but will always be measured against their safety and effectiveness, without compromising the final outcomes for my patients. I encourage my patients to participate in the decisions about their treatment. Clear communication is the best method to achieve a successful outcome, and I will do my best to explain your treatment options and use my diagnostic and surgical skills to help you obtain the best possible results.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
