Biography

Dr. Brahan is a native Californian born and raised in Orange County. She obtained a B.S. in Biochemistry at UCLA and an M.D. at Stanford University School of Medicine. During these experiences, she developed an interest in clinical research because of its potential to improve health for large populations. She obtained an M.P.H. (Masters in Public Health) at UC Berkeley to further hone those skills. She worked as a consultant to the Contra Costa County public health department during this time to work on initiatives for childhood obesity.

She comes to Kaiser after five years in Boston. She completed pediatrics residency in 2003 at a combined program between Harvard University's Children's Hospital Boston and Boston University's Boston Medical Center (BMC). After residency, she stayed at BMC to complete a general pediatrics research fellowship. Her interests revolve around health disparities (particularly around Asian immigrants), access to language services, and cultural competency. This work has resulted in recent publications in Pediatrics and Current Pediatrics, and a National Institutes of Health award. She is board certified in pediatrics (2003) and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Ambulatory Pediatrics Association.

She states, however, that her greatest educational experience has been being the mother of four children. The daily joys and challenges of parenthood have shaped her into a more practical pediatrician.

A message for her patients: "Know that in the midst of my varied experiences, my primary interest has always been and will be in caring for children. My office hours are normal weekday business hours except on Wednesdays. I enjoy and welcome patients of all ages. I am fluent in conversational Spanish and understand Tagalog. I look forward to seeing your child grow with you."

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
