My Background

Welcome! Let me introduce myself. I have started working at Kaiser at Riverside since October 2004. Wow, time flies when you're having fun! I can't believe it has been that long. Prior to that I had been an internist in Oakland for over four years. The reason I joined Kaiser is that I believe strongly in patient education and autonomy. I feel that Kaiser as an organization has the resource necessary for members to best learn about their medical conditions and be proactive in managing them.

As for my medical training, I graduated from University of California, San Diego with a degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Thereafter, I finished medical school at University of California, Davis in 1997. I completed my internal medicine residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, San Jose, in 2000. And I was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine since. I chose internal medicine and primary care because I enjoy the opportunity to work with and get to know a core group of patients with whom I can continue to build a relationship. My mission is to encourage each and every one of you to make small, incremental changes in your life towards the improvement of your overall health.

My Credentials

Medical school UC Davis School of Medicine, Davis, CA
Internship Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, San Jose, CA
Residency Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, San Jose, CA
Board certification Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine

My Practice Philosophy

My goal is to provide the level of care that I want my family (or myself) to be treated. No matter the advance in modern medicine, we still don't have cure for a lot of diseases (eg. Hypertension, Diabetes). But I will do my very best to help my patients live with and manage these diseases.

We also see many patients dealing with chronic pain condition. Many patients do not realize that chronic pain is often a condition with no cure, and there is no simple pharmacological treatment for it. Often times, patients are led to believe that taking a medication, particularly narcotics, will help them cure chronic pain. My belief is that narcotic medications not only do not help, but often contribute to chronic pain problem. Many scientific studies have shown that the best therapies for chronic pain are often non-pharmacological. I have enclosed some resources below.

My Life outside of Medicine

When I'm not working, I'd like to spend time with my wife and my son. He is in Kindergarten now! He and all his after-school activities certainly keep me and my wife busy. I've been also trying to pick up golf although this turns out to be harder than I thought. I'm very much interested in the use of computer in medicine and I'm hoping to continue updating this website for links that I think my patients will be interested in.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
