Hello and welcome to my home page!
About Me:
I was born in Germany to first generation Japanese-American parents and grew up in various locales as my father was an American serviceman. As far back as I can remember, I dreamed of being a physician and went to Stanford University as an undergraduate with that dream in mind. But as life sometimes happens, I followed a different path, earning a Master's degree in Physical Therapy and later starting a Physical Therapy business. While my business was successful, my childhood dream kept resurfacing and I decided to take the leap and pursue the practice of medicine.
I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 2004 after completing my Internal Medicine residency at Kaiser Oakland Medical Center.
Professional Interests
In keeping with my osteopathic roots, I believe that health arises from the whole-- body, mind, and spirit. I try to approach our relationship with this in mind. I also strongly believe in preventative health, so I view our relationship as a long-term partnership, a shared responsibility in working toward your optimal health.
I am especially interested in end of life issues and currently, serve as Hospice Medical Director for Kaiser Oakland/Richmond. I spend just short of half my time in this capacity.
Personal Interests
I enjoy hiking and biking in our wonderful Bay Area parklands. I am a frustrated woodworker and have an intermittent meditation practice. Recently, my family and I have been learning what it takes to build a cabin in the woods.
