About Me
I have been a psychiatrist for over twenty years. I began my career at Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa in January of 2004. I have found it to be a stimulating environment and one with a talented group of mental health providers that makes a truly multidisciplinary team. Together we can provide a wide variety of treatments for most mental health problems. In addition to psychiatrists there are psychologists, social workers and health educators who are available to help members in a variety of ways. Such a diverse and experienced group is a real advantage for Kaiser Permanente members.
I chose the field of psychiatry because of the opportunity to work with a wide variety of people. It is a challenging specialty with new advances constantly being developed. I try to be a good listener which seems critical in understanding the many issues and problems that bring people to see psychiatrists. I hope that I provide the kind of care and attention I would want for myself or my family members. Psychiatry is a fascinating mix of medical and non-medical factors, and seeing the changes that result can be exciting.
For many years I was in private practice in the Midwest. I liked what I did, but it was a bit isolating. I was successful in the practice and I was recognized by a local publication's "Best Doctors" poll of practicing physicians. Moving to California has provided opportunities to enjoy a radically different environment and lifestyle. I really enjoy learning more about the history and life here. I have been a volunteer at the Sonoma County Museum which offers some insights to the history and culture of the area.
Psychiatry is the medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness and substance abuse. I find it interesting because there are various factors that make each of us unique and make our problems unique. I like the challenge of being a good enough listener to better understand the person's life as well as their problems.
