My Specialty and Why I Chose It

I am a nurse practitioner (NP) working in the orthopedic department. I enjoy this job immensely, as it is full of variety and challenge. The position includes rotating into the operating room and assisting in surgery, evaluating patients in the clinic, and seeing patients who are admitted to the hospital. The role is extremely interesting and very fulfilling on a personal level. I enjoy working closely with the surgeons to provide the best care possible for our patients.

My Practice Philosophy

I value communication and education for our patients. I believe if a person understands why a treatment modality is recommended, it is more likely the person will comply and agree with the treatment plan and goals. It is usually very important for the patient to be a part of the decision making process, so that the most appropriate treatment plan is prescribed for that individual.

My Credentials

Bachelor’s Degree Purdue University
Master’s Degree University of Phoenix

  • Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA)
  • Nurse Practitioner, Board Certified (NP-BC)
  • Nurse Practitioner, Level 3 on clinical ladder (NP III)

My Tenure with Kaiser Permanente

I started working as a registered nurse at Kaiser Permanente in 1988 and returned to school to become a nurse practitioner in 2001. Over that time, I've really come to appreciate the Kaiser Permanente system and feel it offers excellent care to our patients.

Kaiser Permanente is an integrated system that enables the providers to have access to all medical records. This then enables us to provide the best possible care for our patients. I also enjoy the close working relationship that is had with the surgeons.

On a Personal Note. . .

Things I really enjoy doing are jogging, hiking, and traveling. I am married and have 3 children, 2 sons and a daughter.
