Our Department

The Emergency Department provides medical care to all patients in need of immediate attention. Our skilled and caring team includes physicians, registered nurses and technicians, all with special training in emergency medicine.

What to Expect

A registered nurse will assess your medical needs and assign you to a treatment team as quickly as possible. Top priority is given to individuals with life-threatening conditions, and those who arrive by ambulance. Patients with less serious conditions are seen as soon as possible. To avoid long waiting times, non-emergency problems are better served in the Minor Injury Clinic, Adult Medicine, Ob/Gyn, Pediatrics, or appropriate specialty departments. Co-payment for services is expected at the time of treatment. The level of your co-payment is determined by the health plan. The emergency department does not determine how much co-payment you will pay, although we are obligated to ask for it. We strive to deliver the same excellent care and service to all of our patients regardless of the level of their co-payment or their ability to pay.

About Me

After graduating from training which has taken me across the country from Massachusetts to California, then to Louisiana and Michigan, I was glad to return to my adopted home, California. I have been fortunate to work here at Kaiser Permanente where I have been able to work in an outstanding health care delivery system with excellent colleagues and facilities.

The best part about Kaiser Permanente for me is the opportunity for my patients to get the follow up with their primary provider for the care that is started in the Emergency Dept. I have full access to all of the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic modalities as well as a full array of specialists to help me with your care. The coordination of care with your providers helps me bring the best of Kaiser Permanente to you.

I have two grown children and a high school freshman. My wife and I enjoy living and working in the Bay Area. I have been well taken care of here at Kaiser Permanente and look forward to helping you when you come to the Emergency department.
