About Me

I was born and raised in China and received my medical degree from Shanghai Medical University in Shanghai, China. After moving to the United States, I completed my surgical internship at State University of New York Downstate Medical Center and then went on to complete my anesthesiology residency at the State University of New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn, NY. I also obtained a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

I became a physician because of the wonder of human physiology and the gratitude for helping a human being through a difficult illness. I have worked in private practice for eight years before joining Kaiser Permanente; I am convinced that Kaiser Permanente is the model of high quality and cost-efficient care in America. With a patient-focused practice system and state of the art health information technologies, Kaiser Permanente is an example of how we can make the entire health care system more efficient. After spending five years in cold Wisconsin and four years in crowded New York City, I enjoy living in the Central Valley.

My medical interest is in anesthesiology because it gives me great satisfaction when I see the appreciative smile on the face of my patients in the recovery room. I also find instant gratification when I can get difficult procedures done with one attempt. It is a great feeling to see the critically ill patients through open-heart surgery safely.

In addition to English, I also speak Chinese.

Hobbies and Interests

In my spare time I enjoy gardening, swimming, biking and traveling with my family.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
