My Biography

Diversity of patient population brought me to Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco, as well as Kaiser’s reputation for service-oriented care. I enjoy the relative ease with which information is exchanged among my colleagues. There is a collegial atmosphere here, a sense of working together. For example, colleagues demonstrate initiative and real responsiveness in cases where we have mutual patients. Our information sharing contributes to a wonderfully collaborative milieu.

One of the things I find most fulfilling about my practice is having the privilege of listening to patients’ different narratives. My goal is to treat patients as whole persons, rather than file them into diagnostic boxes. I find my patients to be motivated and committed to care, which in turn yields better results for them. Typically, patients arrive with a store of knowledge from their own outside research. I tend to learn quite a bit from them, as well!

My professional interests include women's health, cross-cultural issues, group psychotherapy, and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

In my daily life, I aim for a balanced lifestyle. When away from the medical center, I like to run and swim, and I try to eat right. One of my favorite books is Sebald's The Emigrants. I have a pet parakeet named Blossom.
