My Qualifications

I received my medical degree from the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Missouri. I completed my internship and residency at the Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. I was on active duty in the US Army from July 1986 through December 1988 at Madigan Army Medical Center as a staff anesthesiologist. I joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1989. I am a current member of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee and the Credentials & Privileges Committee. I am a past member of the Transfusion Committee. I served as a member on the Osteopathic Medical Board of California from 1994-2000.

My Healthcare Practice

Surgery can be a stressful time and I enjoy very much helping my patients have a great experience in the operating room. I chose anesthesia because I like the immediate feedback I get and don’t have to wait months or years to see improvement.

I think the main advantage of a large HMO is the lack of financial interest in running too many tests and procedures, and the collegiality of the physicians leading to a great team approach.

My Outside Interests

My wife is a nurse educator at Catholic Healthcare West. I have one son and two daughters. My hobbies include skiing and computers.
