About Me

Where I Have Been

I joined Kaiser Permanente in August of 2004. At that time, I left my private practice in Oakland and Orinda to join what I view as an excellent health care system, Kaiser Permanente. Kaiser Permanente integrates primary care, specialty care, and information technology as no other organization has. I am proud to be a part of Kaiser Permanente and am looking forward to the exciting future ahead.

My Priorities

I decided on a career in medicine in order to help people and to contribute to people’s lives on a very personal level. I was intrigued by applying scientific and engineering principles to patient problems. The personal relationships that develop are a tremendous part of the practice of medicine. I value these relationships. It is a privilege to be able to be involved in patient’s lives in this way.

A Little Background

I am a native Californian, having been born at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose. I lived most of my formative years in Pasadena, California. My undergraduate education was spent studying engineering, where I learned much about the materials used in total joint replacements. During medical school, I pursued my interest in orthopedic surgery. I was fortunate to do my residency in a very strong surgical program which was firmly grounded in the basic principles of total joint replacement.

After residency, I completed a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery. I spent the subsequent 14 years being a general orthopedic surgeon with a special interest in foot and ankle surgery. I also have experience with pediatric orthopedics having been an attending doctor at Children’s Hospital, Oakland. My practice was based out of Oakland’s Summit Medical Center and John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.

Personal Interests

My personal life is kept quite busy with four young children. Photographing our family growing up has become a passion of mine. When there is time, I enjoy playing the guitar. I am looking forward to traveling with our children as they get bigger.
