How to Use My Home Page...

My Biography

As a clinician in adult psychiatry, my areas of special interest include treating individuals with depression, addressing relationship issues (particularly circumstances involving cross-cultural and interracial differences), and working with the chronic and persistently ill population. In addition to working with individuals, I also provide case management services for the Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP and IOP2), which helps patients in more acute situations. My other responsibilities include coordinating the Triage and IOP2 teams.

While it is important to acknowledge and appreciate past experiences that have influenced who we are today, my focus is on the here and now. I utilize a cognitive behavioral approach to treatment that emphasizes learning skills, setting goals, and figuring out the reasonable (and not overwhelming) steps to achieve those goals. More importantly, however, I firmly believe in working collaboratively with the patient, and for the patient to feel comfortable and invested in what they are trying to do.

A native of San Diego, I have also lived in Taiwan and traveled extensively throughout the world; however, the Bay Area has become home to me. To thrive, I believe in the natural balance of life; when something gives, something else has to go. I try to maintain a healthy lifestyle both at work and at home by eating properly, exercising on a regular basis, and spending quality time with my family and friends. I enjoy listening to and playing music, biking, sharing a lazy Sunday afternoon with my wife and two sons... and of course, catching as many Los Angeles Lakers and San Diego Chargers games as I can.

I look forward to working with you.

An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
