Welcome to my Home Page

Thank you for looking at my home page. Please take some time out to browse through the important topics to the left of this page. You will find a discussion on “Advance Health Care Directives” under the “Hospital Stay and Consent Forms” section. I firmly believe in documenting your views on medical care so that your family members and physicians will know how to care for you in a crisis.

About Me

I was born in Taiwan and moved to Chatsworth, California at the age of 10. I am proud to be able to speak Mandarin Chinese fluently. If you have already met me, you know I give unsolicited linguistic lessons on the correct pronunciation of my surname. I have been a Golden Bear fan since my undergraduate days at the University of California, Berkeley. My studies then took me to the beautiful state of Michigan where I eventually received my medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan. These four cold years also endeared me to the sport of hockey, so you may hear me cheer on the Detroit Red Wings!

After graduating from the internal medicine residency at University of California, Davis Medical Center in 2001, I had the privilege of joining a fine group of hospital based specialists here at the Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center. During my tenure here, I have continued to learn the art and science of medicine from my patients, patients’ family, and my colleagues. I am enthusiastic about the commitment to evidence-based medicine at our facility. I am encouraged about the new practices being implemented to ensure patient safety. I am touched by the compassion of our staff. Kaiser Permanente has allowed me to fulfill my dream of providing quality care in an unobtrusive environment.

Apart from my role as a hospital based specialist, I also work with the pain management team. Chronic pain has become an epidemic that has received little attention until recent years. Patients with chronic pain have special needs when they are admitted to the hospital. Our pain management team hopes to assist in adequate pain control with these hospitalized patients.

When I am away from the hospital, I unwind by doing yoga, both Bikram style and Ashtanga style. I find that yoga not only enriches my body, but also my soul. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends in a wide arena of activities. My next major goals include becoming a vegetarian and improving my Chinese brush calligraphy. Wish me luck!

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
