About Me
I grew up in Kabul Afghanistan and Queens, New York. My interest in medicine began when I was about 6 years old. I had a family member who was a physician and providing charity health care to the undeserved people in my community that desperately needed his help. I often observed how this physician touched peoples' lives in my community and made a difference; I was inspired by his dedication and commitment to the community. In retrospect, my belief in choosing medicine as a career grew stronger and stronger as the years passed. In 1980, my family migrated to the United States. Like other immigrants I came to the United States with a dream; the dream of becoming a physician. With the support of my family I enrolled in Queens College, of the City University of New York, and subsequently attended the State University of New York at Syracuse College of Medicine. Furthermore I completed my internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis East Bay Program and Kaiser Permanente Foundation Hospital at Oakland. I am certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
In 1995, I joined the department of Internal Medicine of The Permanente Medical Group at Walnut Creek. In 1996 we developed a dedicated hospital based team of internal medicine physicians that are highly skilled and provide more personal care and service to our patients and their loved ones in the hospital. It has been a great honor for me to serve as the chief and leader of the hospital based specialists since 1997. It is my commitment, dedication, and passion that inspires me to work with the physicians and staff of the hospital to continue to strive for the highest quality and service that we could provide to our patients.
My other areas of interest are patient safety, palliative care, collaborating with the nursing service in delivering efficient care to our patients.
On the personal side, I am married and fortunate to have 3 wonderful children. I enjoy spending time with my family, playing soccer with my children, reading Persian poetry, and listening to classical music, are some of my favorite hobbies. I am also very interested in learning about what my patients are interested in and enjoy in their lives. I believe that as a physician it is my responsibility to help my patients achieve the level of care that will enable them to enjoy the fun things that they are interested in. It is a privilege and an honor for me to help my patients and their loved ones.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
