Welcome to My Home Page!

I began practicing medicine in 2002 and joined Kaiser Permanente in 2008. I chose medicine - and Pathology in particular - as a career because I enjoy the combination of helping society and keeping up to date with advances in medical knowledge.

My patients and clinical colleagues can expect that I will provide accurate and timely pathology results in order to contribute to Kaiser Permanente's overall mission of providing the best possible health care to our patients. I have a particular interest in liver and gastrointestinal pathology, as well as in general surgical pathology. I completed my residency and my subspecialty fellowships in Surgical Pathology and Liver and Gastrointestinal Pathology at UCSF. I am Board-certified in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.

Before applying to medical school, I earned a doctorate in Spanish and Comparative Literature from Stanford University. I first learned Spanish working as a health care volunteer in Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and Panama during my summers between college with the youth program Amigos de las Americas.

I met my wife, Sally, in college, and we have two wonderful teenage sons and two standard poodles who keep us very busy and active. As a family, we enjoy hiking, gardening, traveling, attending theatrical and musical events, cooking, and animated conversations over dinner.
